be ok

be ok.

Oh bummer. Yesterday was a good day for Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, and therefore not-such-a-good day for me.

316RubioMarco Rubio dropped out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination yesterday after Donald Trump defeated the Florida senator in his home state. Ohio Governor John Kasich also faced a must-win primary in his home state, and won, keeping his campaign alive. Trump won Illinois and North Carolina, and he and Senator Ted Cruz are nearly tied in Missouri. Hillary Clinton firmed up her lead in the battle for the Democratic nomination by beating Senator Bernie Sanders in delegate-rich Florida and Ohio, as well as North Carolina and Illinois. She and Sanders are nearly tied in Missouri.

It looks like I will be trying to ignore presidential politics—indeed all politics—for the next four to eight years.

This morning, President Obama nominated Merrick Garland as his pick to fill the Supreme Court seat left vacant by the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Immediately afterwards, obstructionist Senator Mitch McConnell announced that the Senate would not do its duty and give the President’s nominee a hearing. McConnell disingenuously cited the so-called “Biden Rule” as a justification, which is what the Republicans are calling an old Joe Biden speech in which he hypothetically discussed what the Democrats should consider doing if George W appointed an ideologue to a non-existent Supreme Court vacancy.

It looks like there will be gridlock politics for some time to come.
