forever young

Holly Ramsey 1949-1993.

It seems very hard to believe, but had she lived, Holly would have been 66 years old today. Yet I will always remember her as a 44-year-old.

Maybe you get tired of my always observing her birthday, but it’s my blog and—to quote the Leslie Gore song—”It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to.”

Last week, my housekeeper Karen marveled that the table was at long last cleaned off and covered with a table cloth. “Gee, you’ve even set the table with placemats,” she said.

“Yeah,” I answered, “that is something Holly would have done.” In fact, they’re her placemats.

In so many ways, I am forever changed. I’m living for two now.

No one will ever reproach you to evoke the memory of Holly, Dan. It is the expression of one of the most beautiful things which the human being is able to feel: fidelity to the memory of a cherished and too soon gone person. Time heals not all wounds. At best, it soothes the pain.

Wishing you happy memories on Holly’s birthday. She was just a month and a half older than me. No need to defend your observance of her birthday, Dan. It is clear from your posts about Holly that you loved her deeply and that your love for her hasn’t diminished over the last two decades. Keep Holly’s memory alive, my friend. She was obviously a most special person, the love of your life.

Tonight is the Perseid meteor shower; find “your star” and share the moment with your memories.
