two special requests

two

Yesterday I received a call from Derek King and a message from Austin Eversole. Derek is without a working computer and phone (which makes and communication tough), and Austin has enrolled in a human relations class through the local junior college, but his stepfather (who paid for the previous to classes) is not paying the tuition this time.

Austin only learned of his stepfather’s decision last week, and the class starts next week. The tuition is just $132. It is such a modest amount, it seems to me we have to do it.

I had offered to buy Derek a computer in November, but the money went instead to helping him make ends meet. While being progressively promoted at the coffee shop, he is still earning $200/month less than expenses.

I sent Derek $50 to cover his most immediate needs for gas so he can get to work until his next paycheck, but his basic technology needs are still unmet. I don’t see how any young person can participate in society today without a phone and computer. He has been making-do long enough; why don’t we get this solved for him, as well? $400 would take care of the bulk of the expense for both devices. Nowhere near top-of-the-line, but adequate.

I can afford to make this month’s deposits into canteen accounts and take care of a couple book requests, but I could please use an assist with these non-recurring expenses totaling $532.

Both Derek and Austin have been doing such fantastic jobs, it seems to me this is a way for us to say: “Job well done.”

I’m in for $132. I support the need for Derek too, but you have to do what you can.

I’m flat broke until Friday, but after bills I’ll see what I can spare to help out. Good on Austin for furthering his education even more, I swear he can’t get enough of learning. As well as Derek for putting bills/expenses ahead of leisure, but it’s not a very fair way to have to live.
