georgia on my mind

“Georgia On My Mind” is taken from Nostalgia—the new album from Annie Lennox, which had an October 21st release date in the US and will be released October 27th elsewhere.

For me, the title of the song is literally true because there is a baby in Savannah that I have never met and three other children who are growing up (and I’m sure doing fine) without me. One of my greatest regrets since the stroke and being unable to travel any more, is it’s inevitable that their memories of me will fade into obscurity. The best I can hope for is to not be completely forgotten—but my relationship with these kids has been such that I think there’s little chance of that. There was a time when a neighborhood playmate assumed I was their grandfather.

Said the composer John Williams: “So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it’s gratifying to have something you have done linger in people’s memories.”
