This seems a little too good to be true.

Alex and I are not only getting along, but we appear to be completely compatible. Neither of us has had to make any accommodations whatsoever for the other’s comfort. He doesn’t seem to mind it when I play music or run the TV at night. We prefer similar foods. Even our biological clocks seem to be the same. This morning I woke up before first light and moments later Alex descended from his sleeping loft. We spent the following morning hours sipping coffee and engaged in interesting, pleasant conversation.

He says I am the best roommate he has yet had, and I would have to say “ditto.” There are long periods of silence, but both of us agree it is an easy silence.

The only thing that I find confusing is that he talks to the dogs in a conversational way, and I am constantly asking him “What?” thinking that he is addressing me. He isn’t.

I realized that he has made this place his home when yesterday he used a sleeping Maggie as a footrest, and she didn’t move. With anyone else, she would have run a quarter-mile away.

Lucky Maggie and Max can’t climb the ladder to the loft, or you’d be without sleeping companions at night too.
